McLaughlin was the first woman to breach the 400 m hurdles 52-second (June 2021) and 51-second (July 2022) barriers by setting four world marks in 13 months. At the World Championships in 2019, she took home the silver medal. She also won gold as a women’s 4×400 m relay team member at each of the three competitions.
Sydney Michelle was born to Mary Neumeister McLaughlin, a high school runner who specialised in the 400 and 800 metres, and Willie McLaughlin, an Olympian Trials semi-finalist in the 400 metres. Her siblings are Ryan, Morgan and Taylor. In 2022, she tied the knot with Andre Levrone Jr. Sydney, a Union Catholic High student.
She married Andre Levrone Jr. (born March 9, 1995), who graduated from the University of Virginia in 2017 and played parts of three seasons as a wide receiver in the NFL before leaving the league, on August 25, 2021, at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale.
Levrone participated in athletics throughout high school and college, especially football. He was a wide receiver for the University of Virginia football team. He regrets that he wasn’t selected for the NFL draught following college. Nevertheless, he was able to enter the NFL and signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.
Levrone acquired a contract with the Carolina Panthers in 2019 after spending almost ten months with the Baltimore Ravens. Sadly, his sports career was cut short by several injuries. He left the field of professional football in 2020. His first position after leaving sports was as a commercial real estate advisor when he entered the real estate business. He started working with Whiting-Turner Contracting as a project engineer in 2021.
Sydney McLaughlin Parents
Willie McLaughlin (Father of Sydney)
Sydney’s father, Willie McLaughlin, became 59 years old, born on February 13, 1963. He was a Team USA competitor in the past and a professional athlete. Being the father of track great Sydney Mclaughlin and racing the 400 metres in the 1984 Olympic Trials made him most renowned.
Willie McLaughlin attended East Orange High School in East Orange, New Jersey. Before enrolling at Manhattan College in New York, where he also participated in track and field, he ran track for his high school team.
Willie was a track phenom at Manhattan College and won several championships. That includes three-time 400-meter NCAA champions, three-time 400-meter IC4 champions, three-time 400-meter Metropolitan champions, and several others. He was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 due to his outstanding achievement.
Mary McLaughlin (Sydney’s Mother)
Sydney’s mother, Mary McLaughlin, a very loving mom. She was born between 1963 and 1964. She was born and raised in Tonawanda, New York, and graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School. She had to run for the boys’ team because there was no girls’ track team, and she even faced off against males from other schools in her speciality events, the 400 and 800 meters.
After graduating from O’Hara High School in 1979, Sydney Mclaughlin’s mother enrolled at Manhattan College. She joined the men’s program and rose to the team manager position because the institution once more did not have a women’s track team. Willie Mclaughlin was going to compete in the men’s 400-meter races when she met him.

The eldest of McLaughlin’s siblings and Sydney’s elder brother is Taylor. He was born in Dunellen, New Jersey, on August 3, 1997, making him 25 years old. He went to Union Catholic High School, where his interests were athletics and science.
Taylor excelled in Union Catholic High School, much like his parents. He received multiple All-American honours in his second year and broke the state sophomore 400-meter hurdle record. Taylor continued to compete in track and field events after attending Michigan University. He also competed in the 2016 IAAF World Under-20 Championships, where he won a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles.

How did Sydney McLaughlin’s parents advance her professional life?
In 2007, when Sydney McLaughlin was just seven years old, her parents took her to the AAU Nationals (the Junior Olympics) in Tennessee. That competition was the beginning of her career as a professional sprinter. Where she performed admirably for her age group, she finished third in the 200m and second in the 100m. When she accomplished all of that, it was for fun.
They brought her back to the nationals in 2008. She performed admirably, although not better than in the preliminary competition. Her parents believed that was the result of her lack of coaching. Willie would take Sydney to a track when she entered middle school and instruct her in some running mechanics, but it was only minimal coaching at the time.
Sydney joined the track club in middle school, began practising frequently, and received professional coaching. That was when she started getting trained and getting team coaching.
Sydney is bi-racial and of African-American parents.
Sydney McLaughlin has two brothers, Taylor and Ryan.
